NFL Week Five Shocker: Eagles Fall to Broncos and Patriots Stun Bills

Football Game

The final pair of undefeated squads in the NFL saw their perfect records shattered during the fifth week as the Philadelphia Eagles along with Buffalo Bills suffered shocking home defeats.

The Denver Broncos evolved from dark horses to headline-makers following an spectacular rallying win against the current Super Bowl champions the Eagles, before hopping on a plane for this Sunday's London contest.

New England's squad then traveled to Buffalo and halted Buffalo's undefeated start with an impressive victory of their own in their first primetime game in twelve months.

The Baltimore Ravens experienced a third consecutive defeat - their defensive struggles could be fatal for their play-off hopes - while the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis, and Detroit Lions celebrated blowout wins on another action-packed Sunday.

Denver Downs Title Holders

It wasn't just defeating the Super Bowl champions, but the way of their comeback from 14 points down that made Denver's 21-17 victory in Philadelphia such a defining success.

The Eagles had won 10 games in a row, 12 straight at home and 20 of their last 21 overall before Broncos quarterback Bo Nix engineered two scoring drives in five fourth-quarter minutes and a late field goal.

Philadelphia are now 4-1 but there is a big worry about their offensive unit, which ranks as the poorest performing in the NFL. Wideout DaVonta Smith says they are not "on the same page" with QB Jalen Hurts.

Denver's defence, which sacked Hurts six times, had much to contribute with it, and, combined with an established starting QB in Nix and elite coach in Sean Payton, they possess all the components to mount a legitimate playoff push.

The Broncos face the New York Jets at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Primetime Patriots Shock Buffalo

Should the Broncos' victory was almost half expected, nobody saw New England marching into Buffalo and defeating Josh Allen's Bills, but they accomplished it with tremendous resilience.

A first primetime game for Drake Maye delivered a star-making showing as he led a decisive field goal drive in the final moments to win 23-20.

The young QB was resilient and made the right throws at the right times, several to ex-Buffalo wideout Stefon Diggs, who delivered a big game for Mike Vrabel's team.

The head coach was expected to turn things around in New England, but a win like this arrived sooner than most expected.

New England Defensive Unit

The Patriots defence contained Buffalo's offensive efforts during their surprising road victory.

Baltimore Postseason Dreams Dashed?

The season is turning into a nightmare for the Ravens, who were without multiple key defenders as they were dominated 44-10 by Houston's team.

It matched their largest home defeat, and dropping to 1-4 for this year means among the preseason Super Bowl favourites have just a small opportunity of reaching the play-offs.

The Ravens are currently 4-11 when missing star QB Lamar Jackson, who was hurt, but the real issue is an exceptionally poor defensive unit that is the real problem - for a franchise that have been synonymous with defensive toughness over the years.

Houston coasted to the win as the Ravens became the first team in the Super Bowl era to concede at least 37 points in four out of five contests. Their season is effectively over.

Lions, Bucs and Colts Go 4-1

The Lions' running back duo Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery scored six points in one contest for the 14th time - a shared NFL mark - as Detroit defeated Cincinnati 37-24.

The win made it four wins consecutively for the highest-scoring team Detroit, but none against opponents with positive records.

A more surprising 4-1 side are the Indianapolis Colts. With their star running back scoring three touchdowns in their 40-6 rout of the Las Vegas Raiders and quarterback Daniel Jones looking like a new man, they will be a difficult opponent for any team.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the four-win group with a thrilling 38-35 victory in Seattle in which both teams exchanged nine touchdowns in 10 impressive possessions before Seattle cracked first with a final-minute interception.

The kicker kicked the winner with the last kick of the contest for the second time this season. All four of Tampa Bay's victories have been secured in the final moments.

Saints and Titans Receive Assistance for Initial Victories

The way New Orleans and Tennessee began the season, they needed help to get their first wins, and they got plenty thanks to several comical mistakes from the New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals.

Following a strong opening from first-year player Jaxson Dart, New York committed five giveaways - one was crucially taken back for six points - while also allowing Rashid Shaheed to find the end zone on a long reception as the Saints won 26-14.

Arizona were even worse as they squandered a 21-3 lead primarily thanks to two huge mistakes.

Initially, Emari Demercado inexplicably dropped the football moments before reaching the end zone for a 72-yard touchdown.

Worse followed when the Cardinals intercepted Cam Ward near their own goal line, then fumbled the football into the end zone for Tyler Lockett to score as the Titans snapped a ten-contest losing streak with a 22-21 victory.

Seahawks Receiver

The receiver registered among the most bizarre touchdowns we'll see this year.

This left the Jets as the sole victory-less squad remaining in the league after their punishing 37-22 loss by the Cowboys.

Jayden Daniels became the initial athlete in NFL history to eclipse 4K through the air and 1K on the ground in his first 20 career games as he returned from injury to guide the Washington Commanders to a notable 27-10 win at Los Angeles.

Rico Dowdle was the standout performer for the Carolina Panthers with 206 rushing yards in their thrilling 27-24 victory over Miami.
