The anticipation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction implies that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve with a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
